The Ubud Village brand has humble roots that date back to 1989. It all began when a Balinese family with a background in construction and strong ties to Ubud realised the full potential of the Monkey Forest area and decided to build a small hotel. Starting out with just 10 cottages, Ubud Village Hotel was one of the first accommodation options in the vicinity to welcome international visitors. By 1995, the property had expanded to 28 cottages and became known for providing home-style comforts and genuine Balinese hospitality.
As Ubud continued to evolve from a cultural enclave to a charming tourist destination, the same Balinese family gradually began acquiring land in nearby Nyuh Kuning. The plan was to create a high-end property amongst the rice fields that was inspired by the concept of a traditional Balinese community. Launched in 2006, The Ubud Village Resort & Spa was designed to harmonise with the surrounding natural environment. With its collection of luxury villas and supporting facilities, the resort was positioned as a tranquil retreat for discerning travellers looking to experience the true spirit of Bali.
Then following the enormous success of Eat, Pray, Love, a best-selling book that was subsequently made into a film in 2010, Ubud soon topped every reputable travel list. Its popularity continued to gain momentum over the ensuing years and by this time Ubud Village Hotel was ready for a facelift. The owner’s two adult sons were now on board as second generation hoteliers and a professional management team was in place to oversee a major renovation project. In 2017, the new-look Ubud Village Hotel reopened with 64 rooms, suites, rooftop villas and lifestyle facilities to complement the vibrant energy of the Monkey Forest area.

Both of our properties are primarily staffed by people from within the Ubud area. This is part of our ongoing commitment towards sustainable tourism that is all about giving back on a local level and supporting community spirit. As a Balinese brand, we adhere to the Hindu religion by conducting ceremonial rituals in accordance to the island’s cultural calendar and our guests are always invited to participate.
We also provide regular in-house training for all employees and nurture talent within the company to promote personal growth and future career opportunities. Essentially, Ubud Village is an extended family that takes care of its staff and guests alike.
